Art and life

3 min read
Well, my artwork is finally coming back to life.  I had lost my entire library - nothing of saved stock images or even my Daz Studio library survived the Great Computer Death of 2013. I have been gradually restocking and redownloading, and I think I now have the majority of my library back.  My Daz folder needs a massive re-organise, but at least it's all on the computer now, and I can start working with it.

In other news, work officially sucks.  Well, the hours do, anyway.  I actually enjoy my job, I just hate the pressure that's put on me.  I am the Grocery clerk, the Bread clerk, the Cakes clerk, the Instore Bakery clerk, the News-stand clerk, the unofficial office technical support, I am expected to give up one day a week to work on the shop floor as a shop assistant, and now I've been told I need to give up another day a week in order to work on the shop floor until 9pm once a week.

Life? What's one of them?

They say that a poor workman blames his tools, and that you don't need high-end tools to perform a quality job, but in my experience it certainly helps.  Since my move to Painter (and I admit I haven't posted any of my practice pieces) my painting has drastically improved.  In animals, in particular.

I'm sorry I've not been very active, but a couple of days ago, my new nephew was born.  Oliver David White, at 5 pounds 11.  He the the cutest, most adorable baby EVER! Photos will be going up soon....

In the meantime, here's a little poem I wrote for him....

Welcome to the world,
beautiful little boy,
And with your birth begins
A time of untold joy!

This family you've come to bless
With your spark of life,
Will stand beside you to the end
In joyfulness or strife.

Your mother and your father,
And grandparents (and aunties)too
Couldn't be more pleased
To finally meet you.

So on this, the occasion of your birth,
I have one thing to say.
Welcome, little Oliver,
This world is yours today.

So, this is day 2 of the big project  - 30 day challenge.  I've set myself the task of creating an illuminated alphabet book, to practice my versals and miniatures.  I've almost completed work on the frontispiece, and the title page is tomorrow.  Then hopefully a letter a day.  Run into a couple of technical glitches already (the book I've chosen to use doesn't like being calligriphied on) - but so far so good.

O, how mature.  Or not.

The question was simple - why were watermarks not allowed in the group as they help to deter art thieves?

I was treated appallingly, and I'm afraid I said so (but nicely!)  I never once lost my temper, even though the owner of the group did.  When I went back to check the group, I'd found I'd been kicked out and blocked. To be honest, after today, I can no longer find it in me to even remotely care - I just found it mildly amusing.

Today's trials have been:

Slept really badly during the night, waking up at 2,4,5,6 and then when my alarm went off at 7.

Only two of us in the office.

Spent most of the day on the shop floor.

The time I was allowed back off the shop floor, my computer was throwing a hissy fit, and kept shutting down with no warning, causing me to lose all my work.

Managed to lock my keys inside my locker, not realising until I got home, and of course the neighbors (who have a spare key) were out.  Luckily I have some kind neighbors who took me in until the neighbors who have the spare key got back.

I was in such a rush once I got in to ring my parents and let them know I was safely in and OK, that I hadn't noticed my dog had had an accident on the floor, and I stepped right in it.

Then got an utter bolloking from my mum, telling me off for managing to lock my keys in my locker (like I did it on purpose....)

So, all in all, not a good day.
